About This Aquascape

This Paludarium was constructed with its inhabitants as a top priority, mimicking the cliffs and tree canopies outside of Medellin, Colombia where these frogs can be found in the wild. The use of lava rock resembles the base of rocky bluffs with fallen branches; making a wonderful place for my collection of epiphytic plants to flourish and grow. My frogs spend their days sleeping on the leaves, and spend their evenings exploring and hunting for food. The water portion features a blackwater section with tannin-stained water, illuminated with backlighting, and houses a pair of Tiger Dario. There is a waterfall feature installed which filters the water and keeps humidity high. The botanicals used on the floor portion are occasionally knocked into the water by the frogs, keeping the ecosystem underwater refreshed and ever-changing.
