A shared philosophy: The idea of bringing a slice of nature into our living space, inspired by Takashi Amano-san’s Nature Aquarium philosophy, strongly influences how I approach aquascaping. For me, an aquarium should not simply look like nature, it should live like nature. The principle is to find the balance between science and art, function and beauty, while creating ecosystems that are practical, sustainable and able to mature over the long term. Most importantly, plants and animals are not decoration. They grow, interact and gradually shape these worlds together. These are worlds that have been lived in. PII - After the Giants Established April 2026, approximately 5 months old at the time of submission. After the Giants occupies the same 80cm long aquarium that once held (PI - First Bank), but almost everything inside it has changed. After Notty and Dotty moved on, the original habitat was completely dismantled and the tank began an entirely different life, a shrimp garden. The scale changed dramatically. A world once designed around two turtles was rebuilt around Caridina Crystal Red and Neocaridina Bloody Mary shrimps, together with mosses, Riccardia, Bucephalandra, ferns and a small group of Otocinclus. This tank was built first and foremost as a calm, stable world for two shrimp species. An Oase BioMaster Thermo 250 provides the main filtration, while double sponge filtration adds aeration and biofilm-rich grazing surfaces. The equipment is deliberately visible, this is a working ecosystem in our home, not a stage set. What matters most is its stability with healthy shrimps, and the quiet pleasure of watching them spend the day grazing through moss, wood and planting. Over time, moss and epiphytes have spread across the hardscape. The long-term idea is for the Bucephalandra to continue propagating until it forms a dense living crown above the moss-covered mound. The glass aquarium is the same, but the world within it could hardly be more different. The giants had gone. What grew after them was a shrimp garden, and a mountain of moss.
