Biotope Information

Macropodus chinensis is a very special type of small fish native to this region. They prefer still waters and build nests and lay eggs in areas with abundant aquatic vegetation. They also take care of the young fish until they grow up. I selected the aquatic plants in their habitat and created this community habitat scene, and raised and observed Macropodus chinensis . Judging from their condition, they seem to enjoy the environment I have created. I am confident that they will soon exhibit reproductive behavior. I will continue to observe and record their behavior.

In terms of representing the complexity and biological dynamics of a natural biotope, I consider this one of the outstanding entries. It is technically brilliant and exceptionally detailed. I am particularly impressed by the choice of flora, the way the vegetation has developed, and the ecological authenticity. My significant concern is the inclusion of Carassius auratus. Even at maximum water capacity, I do not believe the aquarium offers sufficient long-term space for these fish. Animal welfare must be fundamental to biotope judging, and I believe displays should be assessed on the assumption that they can accommodate their inhabitants throughout their natural lifespan, even if constructed for competition.

One of the most natural and immersive recreations I've seen! I absolutely love the shallow water and how the dense emergent vegetation is incorporated into the composition. This is exactly the kind of habitat these species naturally inhabit, and if it weren't for the glass, it could genuinely be a little piece of nature! The attention to biodiversity is outstanding, with not just appropriate fish and plants, but also amphibians and native snails, something I really appreciate! My only concern is Carassius auratus, which can grow quite large, particularly considering the limited actual water volume. Overall, an exceptional and incredibly convincing recreation of a natural wetland. Fantastic work!
