1. Concept This work was inspired by the Kikuchi Valley in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. It seeks to recreate the untouched purity of nature—the crystal-clear streams meandering through deep forests, moss-covered rocks wrapped in moisture, and the stillness of early morning mist. The layout captures the spiritual essence of a landscape where human presence fades and only nature’s breath remains. 2. Design Elements The bright substrate flowing through the center represents the pristine watercourse of Kikuchi Valley. On both sides, driftwood and stones draped with moss and epiphytic plants express the humid atmosphere and quiet vitality of the valley. In the background, the vertically trimmed aquatic plants evoke the towering forest canopy, enhancing depth and immersion. The overall composition was designed to resemble the entrance to a forest path, inviting viewers into the heart of a serene woodland. 3. Technical Intent Every element—wood angles, moss placement, plant density and scale, and the flow of substrate—was arranged to reflect the authentic structure of Kikuchi Valley. Light intensity and CO₂ levels were carefully balanced to support the harmonious growth of mosses and shade-tolerant species. Rather than depicting a season, this layout captures a still moment submerged in time, frozen beneath the water's surface. 4. Philosophical Message A forest untouched by human hands restores the inner silence we often forget. Kikuchi Valley embodies that sanctuary. This aquascape is a miniature world holding a single, tranquil moment—a visual echo of nature’s quiet voice.
